Flowers-Birds-Market

An ambitious designer label that pushes girlish aesthetics in a more rebellious and open way than ever.

Every girl deserves to be free and non-conforming. For many, there’s an outlet used to connect to that power – the way we present ourselves to the world. Style is individual, and it should communicate in a multi-dimensional and inspired way, whether or not lady-like, maximalism, or averse to gender codes. In the rapidly changing world of fashion, some designers are pushing girlish aesthetics in a more rebellious and open way than ever:

Meet Flowers Birds Market (FBM), an ambitious independent Chinese designer whose mission for the 2022SS season is to reject conformity, embodying a new hyper-femininity attitude that resonates and connects the past to the present. In their new spirited collection, it embraces softness and aggression, the subdued and the flamboyant, smothering and raveling. Hyper-femineity, free-spirited fits for women to celebrate their complexity and let the wearer express a twisted image of femininity, shuttering between gender and subversion to upend the traditional girl code.

That freedom, hard to access even today, was an unforgiving mountain to climb in eras before ours.

Although faced with conflict, ridicule and resistance from all societal angles, there were women who shamelessly fought against that toxic rhetoric and lived their best, most authentic selves.

These icons are at the forefront of the drive behind FBM’s collection, embracing the pioneering starlets of the early 2000s -- Britney, Bey, and Xtina to name a few -- women who broke boundaries and crushed the confines of fashion with their bold, fearless approach to style and self-expression.

Stirred endlessly by that confidence and poised yet defiant energy, it became a message that FBM carried within the heart of their production process. It manifests with full transparency in their newest line, curating a 20+ piece collection that stretches and reshapes the creative limits of fashion.

Further inspiration behind FBM’s latest designs span across several areas of fashion, showcasing familiar, nostalgic elements and giving them a contemporary spin. The aughts are at the core of their creative direction, an era of fun, flirty femininity with a penchant for faux-fur trim jackets, body-hugging cropped tees, and flavored lip gloss. Y2K’s influence is clear in FBM’s 2022SS designs, but also borrows from silhouettes of the 1980s, scene + punk subculture, and the reinventive nature of the ‘90s, resulting in a collection that frames the aesthetics of romantic fairy-grunge with FBM’s distinct rebellious edge.

You’ll see bold experimentation with color, pattern, and texture in FBM’s pieces. Feminine, fitted silhouettes juxtaposed with safety pins, hardware, unconventional texture, and distressed detail. Corsets, lace, zippers. Knit, digital art, futurism, harmonized in their strikingly creative designs. Visually imaginative garments with a dreamy allure that FBM establishes in their brand.

In essence, Flowers Birds Market echoes the sentiments of today’s youth for self-expression that takes up space.

They aim to create pieces that don’t adhere to socially constructed limits of femininity but puts a spotlight on the complexities of personal style and encourages an individualist, experimental lens when it comes to fashion.

Designs that say, “I’m here” and unapologetic about it. Sexy, fun, feminine, soft, aggressive.

FBM validates every part with their visionary garments and wants women to embrace wearing whatever makes them feel good—and rejoice in the power that comes with it.
